TWICE's Chaeyoung Leaves JYP After 14 Years, Sets Out on Independent Solo Career

TWICE's Chaeyoung is leaving JYP Entertainment after 14 years as she looks to build the next chapter of her solo career on her own terms.
Chaeyoung shared the news in a handwritten letter on Instagram on Aug. 13, saying she plans to pursue her solo music independently through her "LIL FANTASY" project.
"I wanted ONCE, the family who has always been by my side, to hear the news about me directly from me first," she wrote.
Chaeyoung thanked JYP and the people who have worked with TWICE over the years, as well as her fellow members for standing by her. She also stressed that nothing will change when it comes to her place in the group.
"I think the reason I've received so much love is because of the time I've spent as TWICE, which is my roots," she said.
The decision follows Chaeyoung's first solo album, "LIL FANTASY vol.1," released in September 2025. The album gave her room to explore a sound and visual identity separate from TWICE and was later included on several year-end K-POP lists.
Chaeyoung is the second TWICE member to leave JYP this week. Jeongyeon announced the end of her contract with the agency on Aug. 10 and has since signed with BH Entertainment to pursue acting under the name Yoo Jeongyeon.
Chaeyoung debuted with TWICE in 2015 and will continue participating in the group's activities.
