TORONTO — BTS' return to Toronto was not limited to the two nights the group spent onstage at Rogers Stadium.

In the days leading up to the group's sold-out "ARIRANG" World Tour concerts on Aug. 22 and 23, signs of BTS had already spread across the city. Fans posed for photos at BTS-themed landmarks, spotted advertisements on the subway and downtown streets and lined up for merchandise. For many ARMYs who traveled to Toronto for the concerts, exploring the city became part of the experience before the shows even began.

At Nathan Phillips Square, the Toronto Sign was illuminated purple on both concert nights, one of several gestures from the city marking BTS' return. In the lead-up to the concerts, fans carrying merchandise and dressed in purple could already be seen stopping at the landmark for photos.

Among them were Kaydence and Koleen, who had traveled from Winnipeg, Manitoba, to see BTS perform in person for the first time. Kaydence, who has been a fan since the group's "Wings" era, said before the concert that she was excited to finally see BTS onstage after years of being a fan.

Koleen was introduced to BTS through Kaydence and said she came to appreciate the group for music she felt carried deeper meaning, as well as the way the members consistently showed care for their fans and the people around them. The pair said they were using the trip as an opportunity to visit BTS-related spots around Toronto in addition to attending the concert.

That BTS presence extended north to Yonge Street, where Toronto made its welcome official. On Aug. 21, a section of Yonge Street between North York Boulevard and Finch Avenue was temporarily co-named "BTS Boulevard," with 20 red-and-black street signs reflecting the visual identity of the "ARIRANG" tour installed along the stretch. The signs will remain through Sept. 23.

The city also officially proclaimed Aug. 22 and 23 "BTS Weekend." Together, the initiatives welcomed BTS and ARMY while drawing attention to the Korean-Canadian community and local businesses in the Koreatown North area.

Fans began stopping beneath the BTS Boulevard signs for photos from the first day of the unveiling. Gift, an ARMY K-POPIT met while she was taking photos there, said she had come to see the newly unveiled signs and also planned to visit the Toronto Korean Festival taking place nearby at Mel Lastman Square.

She said she was particularly excited about the chance to receive ARIH products at the festival. With the festival taking place near BTS Boulevard, the two destinations gave fans another way to build BTS-related stops into their concert weekend.

BTS was also visible in more everyday parts of the city. Advertisements could be spotted downtown and on public transit, while crowds formed outside a Nike store as fans waited for BTS-related products and customization offerings. Even while traveling between destinations, reminders of the group's Toronto stop were difficult to miss.

The Toronto Korean Festival added another layer to the weekend. Held from Aug. 21 to 23 at Mel Lastman Square, the event coincided with the BTS Boulevard unveiling and BTS' two-night run at Rogers Stadium.

The festival featured Korean food, beauty and cultural activities alongside live performances by K-POP acts including NouerA, ASC2NT and Catch the Young. During K-POPIT's visit, one of the longest lines formed at the ARIH booth, where visitors waited for free tastings and special giveaways.

ARIH, developed by Korean food companies Paldo and hy with input from BTS, is an official sponsor of the "ARIRANG" World Tour. Its presence at the festival provided a direct link between the Korean cultural celebration and the BTS-centered weekend unfolding around it.

BTS ultimately brought its two-night Toronto run to a close Sunday, but the concerts were only one part of how the group's return played out across the city. From the purple Toronto Sign and BTS Boulevard to transit advertisements, merchandise lines and the Korean festival, fans had spent the days surrounding the shows following traces of BTS from one stop to the next.

For a weekend, experiencing BTS in Toronto meant much more than simply heading to Rogers Stadium.
