CHICAGO — Illinois is turning purple for BTS.

Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker has proclaimed Aug. 27 and 28 as "BTS Day in Illinois," marking the dates of BTS' upcoming "ARIRANG" World Tour concerts at Soldier Field in Chicago.

The proclamation recognizes BTS' global influence and the group's efforts to promote messages of mental health awareness, self-love and philanthropy. It also highlights charitable and community work carried out by BTS' fanbase, ARMY.

Pritzker noted that BTS has "transcended international borders" and said the group's message aligns with Illinois' civic values. The proclamation also pointed to ARMY's involvement in grassroots community service and charitable giving around the world.

One example cited was the 2026 Christie's One Goal auction benefiting the FIFA Global Citizen Fund. BTS fans personally donated more than $50,000, accounting for more than half of the total amount raised through the auction.

The proclamation was initiated through an organizing effort by Chicago BTS Army and HANA Center, a Chicago-based immigrant rights and advocacy nonprofit.

"Rather than simply celebrating a concert, the initiative highlights the profound, real-world civic impact of the band's message of self-love, mental health awareness, and youth empowerment within Illinois," said Tameca Denson, lead organizer of the Illinois BTS Proclamation Initiative.

The campaign also includes a purple lighting of Willis Tower during both concert nights. The tower's antennas are scheduled to light up purple from approximately 8:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Aug. 27 and 28.

Purple has become a symbolic color for BTS and ARMY through the Korean phrase "borahae," commonly translated as "I purple you," which represents lasting trust and affection between the group and its fans.

BTS will perform at Soldier Field on Aug. 27 and 28 as part of its "ARIRANG" World Tour. The shows will mark the group's first full-group concerts at the stadium since its "Love Yourself: Speak Yourself" tour in May 2019, when BTS became the first K-POP artist to hold a standalone concert at the venue.
