Mark Lee Opens Post-NCT Chapter With New Single 'My Friend'

Mark Lee has released his new single "My Friend," his first music since establishing creative company Upper Room.

Released Sept. 10 at 1 p.m. KST, "My Friend" is a mid-tempo pop track built around a wistful guitar loop. The song reflects on the meaning of love while capturing the feeling of leaving one chapter behind and moving toward a new beginning.

Mark participated in the song's writing, composition and arrangement, placing his own songwriting at the center of the release. The single also continues the "Back to Basic" direction introduced through its teasers, focusing on a more natural and stripped-back presentation.

The music video follows the same approach, avoiding heavy CGI and artificial effects in favor of real locations and understated visuals. It was directed by Gus Black, who has previously worked with U.S. singer-songwriter sombr.

"My Friend" marks the start of Mark's music activities under Upper Room following his departure from SM Entertainment and NCT earlier this year. He has also expanded his fan communication channels, opening a Weverse membership on Sept. 9 after previously launching "MARK's Voice Mailbox" and a page on Laylo.
