"This Is How You Do a Remake": UNIS Strikes a Chord With Y2K Nostalgia

K-pop Girl group UNIS has wrapped up music show promotions for its new single "Sky Land, Star Land."

UNIS began its promotional run on Mnet's "M Countdown" on Sept. 10, followed by MBC's "Show! Music Core" on Sept. 12 and SBS's "Inkigayo" on Sept. 13. The eight-member group performed "Sky Land, Star Land" on each program.

The group embraced a Y2K-inspired teen concept for the release. The members combined funky and kitschy styling with individual touches, bringing a bright and upbeat mood to each stage.

UNIS maintained tight synchronization throughout the song's fast-paced group choreography. The members also delivered steady live vocals, demonstrating both their performance and singing skills.

"Sky Land, Star Land" reached No. 1 on the iTunes Top Songs chart in the Philippines shortly after its release. It also entered the chart in Qatar, Taiwan, Saudi Arabia and Hong Kong, among other regions.

In South Korea, the track entered Melon's HOT100 and continued to climb the rankings. It also reached No. 2 on Melon's real-time search rankings, while its performance video ranked No. 7 on YouTube's Daily Music Videos chart.

The release marks UNIS's first remake since its debut. Online reactions included "this is how you do a remake," "UNIS captured it well with their fresh and lively charm," "the arrangement preserves the feel of the original" and "it is a good song to enjoy with your parents."

Interest in the single has also extended to UNIS's earlier releases and performances. The attention surrounding "Sky Land, Star Land" is drawing listeners back to the group's existing catalog.
