Jang Gyu-ri Takes on Classical Music Role in tvN's 'Four Hands,Two Sonatas' With Song Kang
Former fromis_9 member turned actor Jang Gyu-ri is stepping into the role of a classical musician in her latest drama. She plays Hong Jae-in, a violist in tvN's Saturday-Sunday series "Four Hands,Two Sonatas", a character with a sharp musical ear and a deep love for the art form.
Hong Jae-in is the daughter of a classical artist agency head and was born with perfect pitch. In the show, she recognizes the talent of Jeong-yo, played by Lee Jun-young, the first time she hears him. She has also cheered on Pi-o, played by Song Kang, and his performances since childhood. As an adult, she becomes his manager and stays by his side. When Pi-o struggles with Jeong-yo's disappearance, Hong Jae-in looks after him, and their relationship begins to develop beyond friendship and work into something deeper.
Because she plays a violist, scenes of Jang playing the instrument have drawn attention. Jang studied acting at Seoul Institute of the Arts, but at an earlier press conference for "Four Hands,Two Sonatas" she said she had previously learned to play the violin. For this project, she learned to play the viola herself and performed the role of a musician on camera.
Jang debuted with fromis_9 in 2018. She left the group in 2022 and has focused on acting since, expanding her filmography. She began acting while still promoting as an idol. She made her acting debut in 2019 with "Love Watch" (Pilsu Yeonae Gyoyang), followed by "It's Okay to Not Be Okay," "Cheer Up," and "The Player 2: Master of Swindlers," taking on a range of characters.
In "Our Beautiful Summer" (Areumdaun Uri Yeoreum), she played Choi Yeo-reum and portrayed the struggles of youth. In "The Number You Have Dialed" (Jigeum Geosin Jeonhwaneun), she took on the bright, confident announcer Na Yu-ri. Now in "Four Hands, Two Sonatas," she plays the musically gifted Hong Jae-in and plays a central role in the story alongside Song Kang and Lee Jun-young.
Since transitioning from idol to actor, Jang has taken on a new job and character with each project. This time she is showing another side through Hong Jae-in, a violist and manager rolled into one.
"Four Hands, Two Sonatas" airs every Saturday and Sunday at 9:10 p.m. KST.
