ZEROBASEONE's Matthew and Park Gun-wook Launch Hip-Hop Unit EMP With New Mixtape

ZEROBASEONE's Matthew and Park Gun-wook are stepping out as the group's first sub-unit. The pair, performing as ZEROBASEONE EMP, will open their new hip-hop project with a mixtape they wrote and produced from start to finish.

ZEROBASEONE EMP unveiled the poster for their first mixtape, "EMP Mixtape Vol.1: We the Extra," at midnight KST on Nov. 19 through ZEROBASEONE's official social media channels. The mixtape drops Nov. 21 at 6 p.m. KST.

The poster features graphics and a text-based unit logo styled in ZEROBASEONE EMP's own visual language. It also confirms the release of a digital single in November, marking the pair's launch as a hip-hop unit.

The mixtape carries four tracks in total, including the double title songs "EMP" and "Pina C," along with "Woofer" and "In your rain." ZEROBASEONE EMP is credited as a writer and composer on every song, taking full ownership of the project's sound.

The title track "EMP" blends hip-hop with pop for an energetic sound that carries the unit's identity. The second title, "Pina C," moves in a different direction, with a relaxed, breezy mood that pulls from the feel of a day at the beach.

Park Gun-wook has already shown his songwriting on ZEROBASEONE's sixth mini album, "Ascend-," where his self-written track "Customize" drew a warm response from listeners. Matthew has also been building his musical foundation through steady behind-the-scenes work.

The debut of ZEROBASEONE's first unit puts a new spotlight on both members as producers, not just performers. It also opens a fresh lane for the group, giving its members room to explore sounds and identities outside the main lineup.
