YENA Gives J-pop Classic 'Sakuranbo' a Korean Makeover
YENA is putting her own spin on Japanese singer Ai Otsuka's 2003 hit "Sakuranbo," with a Korean remake set for release on Nov. 17.
Teaser images for the upcoming single were recently shared on social media, introducing a colorful, nostalgic concept inspired by Japanese pop culture.
The first image features a glass filled with cherries against a bright pink backdrop, reflecting the song's playful mood. Another teaser draws inspiration from classic Japanese animation, featuring a magical girl-style mobile phone alongside the title "SAKURANBO."
Originally released by Ai Otsuka in 2003, "Sakuranbo" became widely known for its upbeat melody and catchy chorus. The song has remained popular in Japan more than two decades after its release.
YENA's version will retain elements of the original while introducing her own musical style as part of the "J-POP REMAKE" project, which brings classic Japanese songs to Korean listeners through new interpretations by Korean artists.
The release follows YENA's recent digital single, "A Rare Girl," featuring NOWIMYOUNG.
Her remake of "Sakuranbo" will arrive Nov. 17 at 6 p.m. KST on major streaming platforms.
