K-POP boy group TEMPEST is bringing its group activities to an end just four years after debut, with YH Entertainment announcing that its six remaining members will pursue separate paths rather than continue promoting together.

On October 20, the agency confirmed that the decision followed extensive discussions with the members, while simultaneously announcing HYUK's upcoming military enlistment and the termination of LEW's exclusive contract.

"After thorough and thoughtful discussions with the members over a long period, we have made the decision to conclude group activities and focus on each member's individual endeavors moving forward," YH Entertainment stated.

The announcement effectively brings TEMPEST's career as an active group to a close, although the company did not explicitly outline whether a future reunion would be possible.

For fans, the news marks an unexpected ending to a group that debuted with considerable promise in March 2022 and continued releasing music despite changes to its lineup.

However, the announcement also raises a broader question: why is a group with several members remaining under the same agency ending its activities rather than continuing with a revised lineup?

According to YH Entertainment, HYUK will begin his mandatory military service on October 26. Meanwhile, LEW's exclusive contract will conclude on November 1, formally ending his relationship with the agency.

The remaining four members, HANBIN, HYEONGSEOP, EUNCHAN and TAERAE, will continue receiving support from YH Entertainment as they pursue individual activities.

Notably, the company did not announce plans for the four to continue promoting together under a different group name or as a TEMPEST subunit.

Instead, its statement emphasized their individual careers, suggesting that the agency's immediate priorities have shifted away from maintaining TEMPEST as an active group.

TEMPEST debuted on March 2, 2022, with its first mini album, "It's ME, It's WE," entering the competitive fourth-generation K-POP market with seven members. The group later expanded its activities through Korean and Japanese releases, including its Japanese debut in April 2024, while building an international following.

However, TEMPEST's career was also marked by a significant lineup change.

In August 2024, original member HWARANG departed following an earlier suspension from group activities. The agency announced that his exclusive contract had ended by mutual agreement, leaving TEMPEST to continue as a six-member act.

Despite the change, the group continued releasing music, including its 2025 mini albums "RE: Full of Youth" and "As I am."

The decision to conclude activities now therefore comes after a period in which TEMPEST had already demonstrated its ability to continue following a member's departure. While HYUK's military enlistment and LEW's departure would have reduced the available lineup, four members are still remaining with the agency.

Other K-POP groups have continued through military enlistments, lineup changes or temporary hiatuses, making TEMPEST's decision to end group activities a distinct choice rather than an unavoidable consequence of those circumstances.

YH Entertainment has promised to support four members individually, but has not provided details about their upcoming projects, whether they will pursue solo music or acting, or how the group's existing activities and fan platforms will be handled.

The agency also did not announce a final concert, farewell release or other concluding group event. Instead, the statement focused on gratitude for the years shared with fans and encouragement for the members' next chapters.

"We will forever cherish every moment shared under the name of TEMPEST and the precious love sent by our fans," the company said.

The agency also apologized for the unexpected announcement and pledged to support the members as they pursue their respective careers.

Although YH Entertainment has left the possibility of a reunion unaddressed, the announcement marks an abrupt end to more than four years of group activities, leaving fans with little explanation for why TEMPEST's journey together could not continue.
