Actor Kim Woo-seok is getting noticed as a key ally in SBS's medical drama "Doctor X: Mafia in White". He plays a new intern who chooses to side with surgeon Gye Su-jeong, played by actress Kim Ji-won.

The show airs on SBS in the Friday-Saturday drama slot. Its first episode drew an 11.4% rating, based on Nielsen Korea's nationwide household figures. The rating then rose to 18.5% with episode 4, a new high for the series.

As the drama gains momentum, so has interest in Kim. On the 23rd, Good Data Corporation's FUNdex released its drama search issue keyword rankings for the third week of October. Kim placed No. 1 for the second week in a row.

In the drama, Kim plays Park Tae-kyung, a first-year intern at Guseo University Hospital. Park is cheerful and sinceret, and he is not afraid to speak up when he believes something is right from a doctor's perspective.

His senior doctors instruct him to keep an eye on Gye Su-jeong (played by Kim Ji-won). However, Park sees how much she truly cares about her patients. After that, he decides to help her.

Kim plays Park as someone who looks up to Gye but still speaks his mind without holding back. His expressions and tone change naturally in response to those around him, and his quick, witty reactions add humor to the pair's scenes.

For Kim, the role is a clear step forward. The more viewers tune in, the more his take on the sharp-tongued rookie is becoming one of the drama's main draws.

"Doctor X: Mafia in White" airs Fridays and Saturdays at 9:50 p.m. KST.
