Netflix is getting into the K-POP audition business. The streaming platform has confirmed a new girl group competition show built around students from South Korea's arts high schools, and it plans to support the winning group well after the finale.

Netflix confirmed production of the new variety show "We Go High" and began accepting applications on Oct. 21.

The show is billed as a K-POP girl group audition project in which arts high school students compete for their dreams and for the honor of their schools. High schoolers majoring in the arts will meet as rivals and as peers. The series will follow how they compete and grow.

The school setting is what sets it apart from earlier idol audition shows. Students representing their schools will compete head-to-head in singing, dancing and the other skills they have spent years building. A major part of the show's appeal is expected to be watching the contestants compete against one another while also learning to work together as one team.

Eligible applicants include to first- and second-year students at high schools that offer arts or broadcasting-related majors, along with students who are set to enroll in the 2027 school year. Application steps and full details are posted on Netflix Korea's official social media channels.

Producers Park Jin-kyung and Lee Jae-seok of Monstera House will produce and direct the series. They plan to turn the students' rivalries and growth into a variety show format.

Netflix is also thinking beyond the final episode. The company signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with SM C&C to support the group's activities after its debut.

Under the agreement, the two companies will each take on their own roles after the show concludes to help train the debut group and support its future activities. The goal goes beyond selecting members through an audition. They want to help the group develop into artists who are capable of performing on a global stage.

Netflix's reach matters here. The contestants' performances and growth will be shown to viewers around the world, putting the making of a new girl group directly in front of K-POP fans everywhere.

A premiere date for "We Go High" will be announced later.
