Lee Seung-chul Says He Cried Over WOODZ's Tribute Song
Veteran singer Lee Seung-chul and singer WOODZ performed a duet on TV for the first time. Lee appeared on the JTBC variety show "Knowing Bros" in an episode that aired Oct. 31, where he and WOODZ took the stage with a new song.
On the show, Lee sang "Our Own Story" (Uriman-ui Iyagi) for the first time. The track comes out ahead of his 40th-anniversary album. WOODZ joined him onstage, and the two used their very different vocal tones to carry the song.
The pair are known to be close. They call each other "father" and "son."
WOODZ shared on the show that his own father has been a fan of Lee's music for a long time. He also revealed that Lee and his father are the same age.
The episode also covered how the song came together. The collaboration started with an offer from Lee. WOODZ reportedly answered, "I'll just give you a song as a gift," and then handed over a track he made himself.
The song is a tribute to Lee's 40 years since debut. Its lyrics look back on his career in music.
Lee also talked about the first time he heard it. He said he cried tears of joy when he listened to a song written just for him.
Lee is now preparing for his 40th-anniversary nationwide tour, "THE VOICE : LEE SEUNG CHUL." The tour opens with a show on the 14th. It then moves through major cities across South Korea, including Daejeon, Daegu, Seoul, Incheon and Busan.
For a singer marking four decades in music, the milestone now has a song written by someone from a younger generation, one whose own father grew up on Lee's records.
