From Viral Video to No. 1: RESCENE's Zena Says "Pressure Pushed Me to Work Harder"
K-POP girl group RESCENE is returning with new music following an unexpected chart resurgence.
The group held a media showcase at Blue Square Woori WON Banking Hall in Seoul's Hannam-dong on Nov. 3 to mark the release of its fourth mini album, "PULSE."
RESCENE gained attention earlier this year after a video on member Woni's YouTube channel featuring Japanese member Minami trying a gyaru look, a bold Japanese street fashion style, went viral. Interest in the members soon spread to the group's music.
"LOVE ATTACK," released in August 2024, climbed to No. 1 on Melon's Top 100 chart nearly two years after its release. Melon is one of South Korea's major music streaming platforms.
The group released a remake of KARA's "Pretty Girl" in July, but "PULSE" marks its first comeback with original music since the chart resurgence. The question now is whether RESCENE can build on that success with its latest release.
"The past four months flew by thanks to all the love and attention we've received," Liv said at the showcase. "We all worked hard together to meet the expectations of those who waited for us. We hope you'll look forward to seeing a stronger, more mature RESCENE."
Minami also spoke about the attention surrounding the comeback.
"With so many people paying attention to us, we prepared for this comeback with a positive sense of nervousness," she said. "We'll do our best to show new sides of ourselves and how much we've grown."
Zena described the attention as a source of motivation.
"I saw it as positive pressure," she said. "I used that pressure as motivation to practice harder and push myself."
The album's title refers to a heartbeat. "PULSE" explores how a song shared with someone can return as a source of strength.
The album contains five tracks: the title song "With," along with "Finest Thing," "Inside Out," "MEME" and "Dragon."
"With" captures the emotions of finally meeting someone you've been waiting to see for a long time. The song opens with a gentle melody before building into a powerful chorus, evoking the feeling of a heart beating faster.
"PULSE" was released on Nov. 3 at 6 p.m. KST through major music streaming platforms.
