BESTie's 'Love Options' Tops Taiwan Spotify and iTunes Charts
K-POP group BESTie's "Love Options" is now climbing charts outside South Korea. As of the morning of the 5th, the song sat at No. 1 on both the Spotify and iTunes charts in Taiwan.
The overseas run follows a late surge at home. Korean media call this kind of rise a "reverse run," when a song climbs the charts long after its release.
On Spotify Taiwan, the track moved up two spots from No. 3. On iTunes Taiwan, it held its place at No. 1.
The song is doing well in other parts of Asia, too. It reached No. 3 on the iTunes chart in Hong Kong and No. 6 in Malaysia. On Apple Music, it ranked No. 2 in Taiwan and No. 5 in Hong Kong.
It also showed up on the music recognition app Shazam. "Love Options" made the Top 10 in seven countries: the Philippines, Vietnam, China, Japan, Singapore, Thailand and South Korea. Interest in the song is clearly reaching well beyond Taiwan.
Back home, the track keeps rising. After BESTie recently appeared on MBC's music show "Show! Music Core," the song climbed to No. 14 on the Melon TOP100, a chart from the Korean streaming platform Melon. That is a new career high for the track.
The revival started online. "Love Options" first drew fresh attention through short-form videos. Then the members of BESTie reunited and performed on a music show as a full group for the first time in about 4,000 days. After that stage, the song moved higher on Korean charts.
Fans are still watching that performance. The stage video and a full-cam video, which shows the whole group on stage, have passed 7.56 million views combined. The two clips have drawn about 14,000 comments in total.
For BESTie, a few short clips turned into a reunion, and the reunion turned into a new life for an old song. It is another sign that in K-pop, a track's story doesn't end when its promotion cycle does.
