TREASURE Returns to Hip-Hop With ‘NEW WAV’

TREASURE released its fourth mini album "NEW WAV" on June 1 at 6 pm kst, marking the group's return with its first all-hip-hop project since their debut.

The album contains four tracks, including title song "IF I," alongside "ZOOM ZOOM," "NALLY-NA (HYUNHAYO)," and "DANGER." Through this album, TREASURE aims to showcase a more defined musical identity centered around hiphop and the 'YG' sound.

According to the group, the album title combines the ideas of a "new" beginning and "WAV," a reference to a lossless audio which is a format that is meant to reflect the group’s intention to show a more unfiltered version of themselves. Furthermore, the release also arrives strongly, having surpassed 1 million pre-orders ahead of launch.

Leader Hyunsuk shared that he personally contributed the idea for the album title, explaining that the group wanted to develop the style of music they originally started with while creating new energy. Fellow member Jaehyuk added that the project reflects TREASURE's ambition to create a new direction for the group through a genre they have enjoyed since their trainee days.

Title track "IF I" explores the rage subgenre, which has recently gained popularity within hip-hop. The group described the song as a new challenge for the group, adding that it highlights TREASURE's confidence and ambition while featuring several standout moments throughout its production.

The members were also heavily involved in shaping the album's overall direction. Jihoon explained that extensive discussions took place throughout the recording and performance preparation process, with members contributing ideas on everything from vocal delivery to stage presentation. He noted that the group focused on finding ways to express a more relaxed and natural hip-hop performance style while maintaining a strong stage presence.

Following the release of "NEW WAV," TREASURE will continue album promotions before launching their upcoming fan concert tour later this month.
