Red Velvet's Comeback Builds Momentum Ahead of Long-Awaited Return

Red Velvet is seeing growing interest both in Korea and overseas as the group prepares for its first full-group comeback in more than two years.

According to K-POPIT BOARD, the K-POP analytics index, Red Velvet ranked No. 2 on the July 22 domestic chart with a Power Index (PWR_KR) score of 61.0. The group also placed No. 9 on the Global Rise chart with a Power Index (PWR_GL) score of 50.2.

The Power Index combines data from music charts, social media activity and news coverage to measure overall momentum. Red Velvet has remained around the Top 10 in both the domestic and global rankings in recent days as anticipation for its comeback continues to build.

The group's rise comes as SM Entertainment gradually rolls out teaser images, mood clips and album details ahead of Red Velvet's Aug. 3 return with the summer mini album "Velvet Summer." The release marks the group's first full-group comeback in about two years and two months.

The five-track album is led by title song "Surfin' Boy," a dance track that blends bossa nova guitar, reggae rhythms and house grooves. Joy wrote the lyrics for the song, which reflects on treasured summer memories while looking ahead to creating new ones.

The agency has also introduced previews of B-sides including "Hot Girls Cold Vibe," "Orchestra," "Hula Hoop" and "Hawaii," with the latest teaser images and mood clips drawing attention for their nighttime seaside setting and Red Velvet's signature "Velvet" atmosphere.

Red Velvet will kick off its comeback weekend with fan-con "A Day in Red & Velvet," which runs from July 31 through Aug. 2 at Korea University Hwajeong Gymnasium. All three shows sold out, including an additional July 31 performance that was added after the original dates quickly filled during fan club presales.

Fans have responded enthusiastically to the comeback teasers across social media, with many praising the group's signature "Velvet" concept and celebrating the long-awaited return of all five members. Comments calling the visuals "so Red Velvet" and welcoming back the "summer queens" have spread widely online.

With more teaser content still to come, anticipation for the Aug. 3 comeback continues to build.
