TORONTO — Surrounded by luxury boutiques in one of Toronto's best-known shopping districts, a different name drew crowds to Bloor Street as fans arrived for BTS' long-awaited return to the city.

"BTS Pop-Up: ARIRANG in Toronto," located at 144 Bloor Street West in Yorkville, opened Aug. 14 as an official merchandise stop tied to the group's "ARIRANG" World Tour. The timing made it a natural stop for fans who traveled to Toronto for BTS' two sold-out shows at Rogers Stadium on Aug. 22 and 23, the group's only Canadian dates on the tour.

Getting inside took some planning. The pop-up mainly operated through timed online reservations, though on-site waiting was available depending on capacity. Without a reservation, fans could spend around 90 minutes to two hours waiting outside before being allowed in.

Once through the doors, the space felt closer to a polished boutique than a typical concert merchandise stand. White interiors and pale-wood displays gave the store a clean, minimalist look, with large photos of the seven members and "ARIRANG" album visuals throughout. The setting fit naturally into Yorkville, a neighborhood better known for designer stores than K-POP merchandise.

Most fans came to shop. Racks and shelves carried albums, T-shirts, hoodies, hats, keychains and other "ARIRANG"-related items. Some immediately opened their albums after checking out, comparing photocards with friends before leaving the store.

As an exhibition, the Toronto pop-up was fairly simple. There were few interactive installations, and little about the merchandise or displays was specific to Toronto. Fans who had visited another "ARIRANG" pop-up would likely recognize much of the format. The experience was less about stepping into an elaborate BTS-themed world and more about shopping for the tour in a space designed around its latest era.

What stood out more was who had made the trip. With Toronto hosting the tour's only Canadian stop, fans traveled from across the country, and the pop-up became one of several places where that crowd converged during the concert weekend.

Among them were Katherine and Deanna, both 26, who flew about four and a half hours from Vancouver to attend both shows. The friends have been ARMY since 2017 and had never seen BTS perform in person before coming to Toronto.

"This might be the only time we ever see them in our lives," Deanna said ahead of the concerts.

They bought the "Living Legend" album at the pop-up and planned to save some of their shopping for the stadium, including clothing and light sticks.

The Toronto pop-up was not necessarily a destination on its own. Much of what was inside could be found at other stops, and the experience remained centered on merchandise. But during BTS' long-awaited return to Canada, its Yorkville location became part of the wider concert weekend, giving fans who had traveled from across the country another place to gather before the two nights at Rogers Stadium.
