BTS Agency Goes After Malicious Posters, $1.4 Million Ticket Scalping Case
Following similar legal action involving SEVENTEEN, BTS's agency is stepping up its response to malicious online posts and illegal ticket scalping, with some offenders already receiving fines.
BIGHIT MUSIC said Sept. 28 that individuals who posted defamatory or insulting content targeting BTS on platforms including Threads, DC Inside and Naver News have recently received summary fines or court-imposed penalties.
The agency said it has also seen an increase in malicious posts on overseas social media platforms and anonymous online communities, including Threads, X and Instagram. It stressed that anonymity or operating from an overseas platform does not exempt users from potential criminal liability and said it would continue efforts to identify those responsible.
BIGHIT MUSIC is also taking action against the spread of false rumors and fabricated news about BTS's albums, concerts and other content. The agency said it is collecting evidence through real-time monitoring and will continue pursuing cases without settlements or leniency.
The company also addressed illegal ticket reselling. A suspect was recently referred to prosecutors in custody after allegedly using automated programs and other people's identities to resell concert tickets for dozens of times their original prices, generating more than 2 billion won ($1.4 million) in proceeds.
BIGHIT MUSIC said it cooperated with investigators from the early stages of the case and submitted a petition calling for strict punishment.
