Zara Larsson Joins the Credits on IVE's New Mini Album
K-POP girl group IVE is ready to share the rest of its new mini album. The group will release "Looks Can Kill" on music streaming sites on the 26th at 6 p.m. KST, according to its agency, Starship Entertainment.
IVE (An Yujin, Gaeul, Rei, Jang Wonyoung, Liz and Leeseo) already put out the album's title track, also called "Looks Can Kill," on the 19th. The full release adds five new songs, bringing the album to six tracks.
The album is set up as a spinoff. In earlier releases, IVE played with Cupid and magical girl concepts. This time, the group puts a "Girl Hero" concept front and center. The idea still rests on self-confidence, a theme IVE has returned to again and again since its debut. Here, it gets stretched into new territory.
The members had a hand in the writing. Rei is credited as a lyricist on the title track. It opens the album and is followed by "Mirror Mirror," which takes a fairy-tale idea and gives it a darker mood. Next comes "SNAKESKIN," a song about finding your true self.
Gaeul and Liz helped write the lyrics for "CRUMBS." The album also includes the fast-paced "Girls Girls Girls" and closes with "Glow Motion." Each of the six songs comes from a different genre.
The credits mix Korean and international names. On the Korean side, they include lyricist Seo Ji-eum, Gaeko of the hip-hop duo Dynamic Duo, Lil Cherry and Omega Sapien. Swedish pop singer Zara Larsson also appears, along with overseas producers Margo XS and Cecile Believe.
Since its release on the 19th, "Looks Can Kill" has been climbing major music charts. The performance is built around choreography that mimics firing a gun.
With the pre-release track warming things up, IVE plans to use the full album as the starting point for TV appearances and live stage performances. The girl hero idea is new for the group. The message underneath it is the same one IVE has been sending since day one: believe in yourself first.
