My Melody, Kuromi and More Get a Korean Makeover in Ediya Coffee’s New Sanrio Collab
Ediya Coffee is teaming up with Sanrio again, this time with a Korean twist. The South Korean coffee chain announced on Sept. 3 that it will release a fall seasonal menu and limited-edition goods featuring Sanrio characters dressed in hanbok, traditional Korean attire. This marks the fourth collaboration between Ediya Coffee and Sanrio Characters.
The collaboration leans into the global K-culture wave by blending Korean tradition with autumn flavors. Popular Sanrio characters including My Melody, Kuromi, Cinnamoroll and Pochacco are reimagined in hanbok, with some styled in historical outfits such as those of a sato, a local magistrate, and an amhaeng-eosa, a secret royal inspector during the Joseon era.
The new menu includes four items: three drinks and one snack. All three drinks are caffeine-free, making them a good option for customers looking for a coffee-free treat. The lineup features My Melody Hibiscus Green Tangerine Tea, which pairs sweet and tangy green tangerine with hibiscus; Kuromi Black Sesame Cream Latte, a condensed milk drink topped with nutty black sesame cream; and Pochacco Chestnut Cream Latte, a rich chestnut latte finished with cream and cocoa powder. The snack is Cinnamoroll Strawberry Chocolat Crunch, a chocolate crunch filled with strawberry cream.
The Sanrio cuteness doesn't stop at the menu. Four types of hanbok-themed goods will roll out in stages. A random figure magnet set of eight designs, showing each character in hanbok, sells for 5,000 won when customers spend at least 5,000 won including a handcrafted drink. A doll pouch keyring set of two designs is priced at 7,900 won with a purchase of 8,000 won or more including a drink. A DIY hanbok doll keyring set of four designs, which lets customers change the doll's outfits, sells for 9,900 won under the same purchase condition. A daenggi norigae set of two designs, modeled on traditional Korean accessories, is priced at 6,900 won with a purchase of 5,000 won or more including a drink.
"We've refreshed our long-loved Sanrio collaboration by weaving in Korea's traditional sensibility," an Ediya Coffee representative said. "Through character goods in hanbok and drinks made with seasonal fall ingredients, we want to offer a different kind of brand experience."
